Troy Smith Gets the Nod
In the latest installment of the ‘Supplanting Kyle Boller’ drama, Heisman Trophy winner and Ravens rookie Troy Smith will make his first NFL start this Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks, head coach Brian Billick announced yesterday.
Still feeling affects from a concussion he suffered in last Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins, Boller has been unable to practice with the starting team this week. It is unclear whether he will be able to fill the back up role either, as he is still suffering headaches and is sensitive to light.
Might appear to be two weeks to late for Billick to make this call, but a good one nonetheless. It begins the transitional period for Boller to head out the door, for Smith to show if he’s a quality quarterback (or at least a decent trade commodity) and for the team to get a renewed lease on winning. Not sure if it will get our local goof off the roof, but it may keep him a little warmer up there.
