Jason Garrett, a reported front runner for the head coaching position with the Baltimore Ravens, left town Tuesday night with the details of a contract not finalized. He departed to Atalanta for a second round of interviews with the Falcons, amidst other reports out of Dallas that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones will match any offer Garrett receives to keep him as an offensive coordinator with the team.
The interesting thing is that Garrett himself has reservations about taking a head coaching job this early into his coaching career. He has only three years of NFL experience, and while this might be a good hire, Bisciotti has communicated to the fans and coaches around the league that he’s looking for a ‘hall-of-fame’ hire.
Whether Garrett is flying south this winter to drive up the price on the Ravens, or is unsure of how he would fare as head coach of one of the league’s up and coming franchises, the Ravens can ill afford to be jilted after such a hot pursuit of Garrett. With questions still pressing about personnel, look for Marty or Brian Schottenheimer’s name to surface quickly should Garrett be deliberate in his decision making.
