Ravens Release Center Mike Flynn

Mike Flynn (Baltimore Sun)There’s only three players that have been with the Baltimore Ravens longer than center Mike Flynn. Jonathan Ogden, Ray Lewis and Matt Stover. That should tell you what kind of career with the Ravens came to an end yesterday when the Ravens cut their starting center of the last seven seasons.

Flynn was a casualty of the annual salary cap campaign, and his $2 million salary for the upcoming season will make for $3.3 million in cap room for the franchise.

You hate to see a true team cornerstone go, but in an era of free agency and big payouts for superlative players, it’s a necessary evil to remain competitive in the NFL.

They need to release some more players on the wrong side of thirty, like Rolle, Ivy, and possibly Pryce. You could probably throw Mason in there too. Getting under the cap is important, IMO.  The Ravens have been a little too quiet in free agency. I know they don’t have much room, but they haven’t been linked to any trades or free agents at all. That’s worries me. DeAngelo Hall is out there. The Ravens will probably wait until the market settles. By that time, there would won’t be anything left of value.
