The stock on second round pick Ray Rice has been high since he stepped foot into Ravens’ camp. It could be on full display this Thursday, as knee trouble for starting running back Willis McGahee may force the rookie into the starting role for the Ravens’ first preseason game against the New England Patriots.
The word on Rice throughout camp has been one of tenacity and talent, mixing together for a package that could prove to be a bonus for the Ravens this year. His physical style of play has drawn comparisons to Maurice Jones-Drew with the Jacksonville Jaguars, and his speed and agility has put in in the realm of scat backs like Michael Turner of the Atlanta Falcons.
He will see significant time this preseason, and the where he left off at Rutgers might be where he picks up in the NFL. Should McGahee not be 100 percent going into the regular season opener, the offense might not miss a beat with Rice in the backfield.
