Not the kind of thing you want to hear if you are Ravens’ rookie quarterback Joe Flacco.
Another Raven, rookie quarterback Joe Flacco, was getting a different kind of attention last weekend. The 6-6, 235-pound Flacco was mistaken Saturday night for record-breaking swimmer and Baltimore native, Michael Phelps, who won eight gold medals at the Beijing Olympic Games.
Flacco’s big rookie mistake to date? Getting on the team’s hotel elevator with quarterbacks Todd Bouman and Casey Bramlet.
“This gentlemen gets on with his kids, and says to Joe, ‘You’re that swimmer aren’t you?”‘ Ravens senior vice president Kevin Byrne says.
“No, I’m not that swimmer,” Flacco says.
“That’s OK, we won’t tell anybody else.”
“No, I’m not Michael Phelps,” Flacco says.
Just as he is in the pocket, cool, calm and collected. Because after all, after Cal Ripken Jr. and Michael Phelps, how many famous skinny white guys can there be?
