In case you haven’t heard, the formality has become a reality for Joe Flacco. The rookie quarterback has been named the starter for the rest of the season by Ravens head coach John Harbaugh.
Todd Bouman will remain the backup, and Tory Smith, the former Heisman Trophy winner who was believed to be the front runner for the starting position prior to a tonsil infection sidleining him for half of the preseason, will be the emergency quarterback.
The move was obvious, so I wonder why there’s such as big deal being made about it. Flacco was drafted to start at some point, and through his first four games, he’s won two and showed promise.
A lot to ask from a rookie quarterback on a team with an offense that has at points, scored less than defense and special teams.
As time goes on, Flacco will get more comfortable with the offense and receivers will know what he wants to do with the ball. Knowing that, its a quality move for Flacco and the offense to know what to expect going forward in the season.
