So, I’m going right to special teams because I want to keep the big prime positions for the Ravens until closer to the draft and free agency.
At kicker, the Ravens look solid. Matt Stover has an expiring contract, but is expected to play at least one more year, and Steve Hauschka already has hit a 54-yard field goal in game-time pressure and has kicked off solidly the whole year.
Sam Koch is the best punter in the NFL, in my opinion. He continues to improve, and is an ace at placing opponents in close to their end zone.
The interesting battle will be at the return position. Jim Leohnard has been very impressive returning punts, and Yamon Figurs has underimpressed returning kicks. The only other candidate currently on the roster is Ray Rice, who never returned kicks at Rutgers to keep injury risks at bay, but impressed in preseason games. The return slot is a dispensable position, and if Dewan Landry ends up starting at safety, Leohnard could return both punts and kicks, and Figurs will do whatever else he can do.
