Around the WWW

The world wide web is a big place, and here to help you navigate a bit more surly are some cool links ranging from Michael Vick to a Rick Reilly masterpiece. Rick Reilly writes about Camp Sundown and their experience with the New York Yankees. This is truly a great story, and is a must read. Camp Sunshine shines in the Bronx. Here is a complete article on the whole Michael Phelps fender bender incident from the Examiner, a local Baltimore newspaper. Michael Phelps driving on expired license: get an assistant. Marcus Smith Out For Season

AUTHOR: | IN: Ravens | COMMENTS: None Yet

Second year wideout Marcus Smith’s season has come to an unfortunate end. After sustaining an injury during the Ravens 23-0 rout over the Redskins, his agent Kevin Omell, confirms that Smith has torn his anterior cruciate ligament in his left leg. In english, he has a left ACL tear. Smith was hoping to build on a successful rookie season and 2009 training camp where he was battling for a spot on the roster as a receiver and not just a special teams specialist. Omell released this statement pertaining to the injury: “He was having a good camp and had an [...]

You Hear That? He Sparkled.

AUTHOR: | IN: NFL | COMMENTS: None Yet

According to the Associated Press on ESPN, rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez sparkled in his debut as a New York Jet. I am here to remind them that they are talking about football, not figure skating. These guys don’t sparkle. They have manly light reflect off of their toughness. NFL players don’t sparkle. Although Sanchez did have a brilliant game, 3 for 4 for 88 yards, but he by no means sparkled. He glowed in his success. Or he shined in his first action wearing a Jets uniform, but I will guarentee you that he most certainly did not sparkle.

It’s A Tragedy

AUTHOR: | IN: Ravens | COMMENTS: None Yet

When reading this title you may think that I am referring to the fact that upstart WR and special teams standout Marcus Smith is hurt. That is indeed a tragedy, but I have unearthed something so deceitful, and so contradictory, that I simply couldn’t believe it. During a commercial sometime in the second quarter a Heinz ketchup commercial came on. I instantly thought of our rivals, the Pittsburgh Steelers and their stadium, Heinz Field. Everything was fine until the last sentence of the commercial; “We are proud to be the official ketchup for your Baltimore Ravens”. Excuse me, what did [...]

Michael Phelps in Car Accident

AUTHOR: | IN: Ravens | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

BREAKING: Legendary olympian Michael Phelps, who won 8 gold medals at the Beijing Olympics was in a car accident in the Mount Vernon area of Baltimore at about 9:00 PM.  Apparently, alcohol was not involved, Phelps was not injured, and the other driver, an unidentified female was taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons.  In November 2004, Phelps was sentenced to 18 months of probation for a DUI, so sketchy driving is nothing new.  It isn’t clear whether any error in driving was made by either driver, but it now sounds like the crash isn’t as serious as I first [...]

Preseason: Week 1 Impressions

AUTHOR: | IN: Ravens | COMMENTS: None Yet

I only watched the 2nd half, but here’s what I got from it: Troy Smith is quite good. Justin Harper also looked quite good. I’m pumped to see Paul Kruger tearing up O-lines this year.  Anyone with a good nickname/catchphrase for him, just leave a comment. Lardarius Webb was all over the field, and you could see his safety side, getting pressue on the QB and being a ball hawk, breaking up multiple passes. I hate these TV guys. Though I did like Qadry Ismail’s playing days. Edgar Jones is a cool guy to talk with, and had a solid game.  He’s definitely a [...]

Michael Vick Is Flying High in Philly

AUTHOR: | IN: Ravens | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Did you want Vick? Too bad. Michael Vick just inked a two year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles. Chris Mortenson of ESPN broke the story, and Vick’s agent Joel Segal confirmed it. In the 2009-2010 the season former Atlanta Falcons quarterback will be in the city of Brotherly Love. Once the highest paid player in the NFL, now coming out of jail just fighting for a job, Michael Vick has been given another chance in the NFL. Vick cannot play until week 7 due to his suspension. As more details surface, I will leave comments on this post, so I [...]

Mason, Clayton, Umm… Now What?

AUTHOR: | IN: NFL, Ravens | COMMENTS: None Yet

With our top three receiver’s receiving injuries in the past week at training camp, the battle for the backup roles heatens. Derrick Mason sustained a “jammed” index finger on Tuesday, while Mark Clayton and Demetrius Williams are still dealing with their hamstring troubles. All should be fine, but with them out for the time being, we get a better look at what lies behind these two. Derrick Mason seems to cemented as the #1 receiver, Mark Clayton the #2, and Demetrius Williams the #3. However, beyond them it is a tossup for the 4 and 5 roles. Some of the names that are fighting for those [...]

Q&A With DC Pro Sports Report

AUTHOR: | IN: NFL, Ravens | COMMENTS: None Yet

So the guys at DC Pro Sports Report emailed me asking if I could answer a few Ravens questions for them to post to their site as pre-game coverage for this oh so exciting preseason game between the Ravens and ‘Skins.  This will be the first game where I talk to another blog about their team, as I will attempt to do a Q&A type thing like this every week.  The post is already up there, here’s what I had to ask them. Q1: Although it’s still early, how well do you predict the Redskins will perform this season?  Playoffs? [...]
