EbonyBird.com’s 2010 Best Individual Performance
Before I delve into this, I know I haven’t posted since Tuesday, which is really bad. There were several factors, everything from internet connection to just having a lot of work to do. The award week will continue, and mock drafts will be posted, I’m just sorry that they’ve gotten pushed back. This award goes to the player that did the most in one game by himself, carrying the team on his back and exceeding all expectations that were set for him in that game. This season, there were no incredibly epic performances in the regular season, but in my [...]
Mardy Gilyard and Dexter McCluster
When Ozzie Newsome drafted Mark Clayton with the 22nd pick of the 2005 NFL Draft, he was supposed to be our home run hitter. After five seasons, it’s safe to say that he didn’t really pan out. With the 25th pick of the 2010 draft, many expect Newsome to go after a receiver again; but honestly, there aren’t too many that would be worth the pick. Dez Bryant will almost certainly be off the board, and Golden Tate and Arrelious Benn scare me a bit as round one prospects. We all know that Newsome prides him self on taking the [...]
Jim Zorn Hired From Across the Beltway
The Baltimore Ravens announced Saturday, that they have hired Jim Zorn, the ex-head coach for their local rivals, the Washington Redskins, as their new quarterbacks coach. The vacancy for the position came up about a week ago when the Oakland Raiders hired Hue Jackson, then the Ravens quarterbacks coach, to be their new offensive coordinator. Jim Zorn was the head coach for the Washington Redskins for the past two seasons, and as a result of his 12-20 record with them, he was fired shortly after the regular season concluded. “He has been an NFL quarterback coach, NFL head coach and [...]
Hue Jackson Is Raiders’ New OC
The big Ravens news today: QB coach Hue Jackson has joined the Oakland Raiders as their offensive coordinator. All I can say really is good luck. When your main job is to make Jamarcus Russell a winning quarterback, yeah, that might be an easy one to mess up. Chris at Just Blog Baby did a great job of describing Jackson and the jobs he will probably need to do in Oakland, and I highly advise you read that post. According to Jamison Hensley via Twitter and his blog, Jim Zorn and Al Saunders are “likely candidates” to replace Jackson. Zorn, [...]
EbonyBird.com’s 2010 Ravens Most Improved Player
The EbonyBird.com 2010 Award Week continues with the Most Improved Player award. One great part of being a big fan of an NFL team is seeing players progress and improve, and sometimes, become the star of your team. This year, at least for me, the choice is obvious. Ray Rice, RB, 2nd year out of Rutgers: Rice is the obvious choice here. Not because he was a useless player last year, he was actually the total opposite in his rookie season. But when a guy goes from being dangerous for most of the games in the 2nd half of the [...]
Senior Bowl: Who To Watch
The Senior Bowl kicks off this Saturday, and EB is keeping an eye on a few prospects. Just as the name of the game suggests, only seniors are allowed to participate, so don’t freak out if we didn’t suggest that the Ravens will look at certain underclassmen. Here’s who we think Ozzie Newsome and company should have their eye on during this game: Brandon LaFell WR (LSU) – Considered one of the top receivers coming into the season, LaFell’s stock has taken a bit of a hit as he has been surpassed by guys like Golden Tate. We know he [...]
EbonyBird.com’s Awards Week: Top Rookie & Newcomer
Kicking off EbonyBird.com’s Ravens Award Week for the 2009 season will be two slightly similar awards, Top Rookie and Top Newcomer. Top Rookie is simple, the top rookie on this year’s team, whether drafted or undrafted. Top Newcomer is a bit different. It’s the top player that the Ravens brought in this offseason who was not a rookie, so in simple terms, the top free agent addition. Ravens 2009 Top Rookie: Lardarius Webb, Cornerback, Nicholls State, Drafted 3rd Round: Although Michael Oher is the sexy pick here, being the subject of a box office hit and being nominated for NFL [...]
Some Monday News
This will be one of two posts tonight. Right after I post this, I’ll start working on the first installment of EbonyBird.com’s Awards Week. There is a healthy amount of Ravens news out there today, some is speculative, some is confirmed and some is TOTALLY AWESOME!!!! Let’s start with the totally awesome news. Anita Marks is done. That’s right, Anita Marks will no longer be the host of the afternoon drive-time show with Scott Garceau on 105.7 The Fan. An epic failure as a Baltimore radio host, the world is now a better place without her polluting our minds from [...]
EbonyBird.com’s Ravens Award Week
First off, sorry for the slow nature of posts the last week. It’ll pick up again. Basically, the next week will be a week with daily posts of Ravens award winners, in our opinions. The offseason series will be put on hold for a week, and once both this and the offseason series is complete, draft coverage will be in full swing. Here’s the awards that will be announced, in this order: Top Rookie Top Newcomer (a veteran who was added this season) Most Improved Player Best Individual Performance (in one game) Play of The Year Special Teams MVP Defensive [...]
QB Coach Hue Jackson Linked To Raiders
Ravens QB coach Hue Jackson, the main teacher of Joe Flacco since he entered the NFL, and a contender for many open offensive coordinator jobs last offseason, has been linked to the Raiders to take the reins from Tom Cable as their new head coach. Today was the third straight day that Jackson was interviewing with Raiders owner and the NFL’s resident old man, lady-looking alien thing, Al Davis. Davis must have a thing for QB coaches, because before he hired Lane Kiffin, an offensive coordinator from a college program, he offered an NFL head coaching job to Steve Sarkisan, [...]
