Sean ‘Madden 2010′ Payton
Last night’s Super Bowl was entertaining to say the least, and as I did not know anyone who wanted the Colts to win, I feel safe in saying that the popular favorite came out on top. The Saints who came out a bit shaky were able to stay with the Colts in the first half. In the second half, they came out guns firing and took the lead and rode that momentum to become the 44th Super Bowl Champions. The MVP on the field was QB Drew Brees who completed a Super Bowl record 88% (tied with Phil Simms in Super [...]
Super Bowl XLIV Recap
First off, let me just say that we just witnessed the third enjoyable, intense Super Bowl in a row. Long gone are the days of one team winning by 30 points and the game being decided by the second quarter. This game and this result is yet another example of the parity and increased level of competitiveness in the NFL. Each team played to win tonight. Both quarterbacks were on the ball, and they were the story. Contrary to my belief before-hand, Reggie Bush and Pierre Garcon weren’t the big factors in the game, it was really whoever could stop [...]

Troy Smith Update
Sorry I missed this yesterday, but Jamison Hensley had an update on the Troy Smith trade demand saga. The latest news to break is that Ozzie Newsome received no trade request from Smith’s agent, Ralph Cindrich. This conflict’s Cindrich’s original story, where he reported on Twitter that he had fulfilled Smith’s wish of filing a trade request. Newsome said Wednesday that he personally never received a formal trade request from Cindrich. “I have not heard from his agent,” Newsome said. “And I know who his agent is, personally, so I have not heard that.” Either way, whether Cindrich did in [...]
Ravens HOF News: Ryan Mink Edition
The NFL Hall of Fame class was announced today, and it included all-time greats Jerry Rice and Emmitt Smith. One name it did not include however, is Shannon Sharpe, former Ravens tight end and three-time Super Bowl winner. In addition to his illustrious career as a Denver Bronco, Sharpe was always a big threat as a Raven. Ryan Mink summarizes Sharpe’s HOF bid and accomplishments with the Ravens on BR.com: Sharpe led the Super Bowl team in receptions (67) and yards (810) and tied Qadry Ismail in touchdowns (5). Sharpe had two clutch touchdown receptions in the playoffs – one [...]
Friday News: Reed, Tomlinson, Stallworth and More
While a ravenous snow storm pillages the East Coast, the NFL goes on in sunny Miami with Super Bowl XLIV. For those of you who don’t know your Roman Numerals, Sunday marks the 44th Super Bowl. As is always the case in Super Bowl week, there is much more news circulating other than game announcements. Even after Coach Haraugh reiterated that he believes that Ed Reed will return, some news came out today again, being that Reed’s nerve impingement has ‘gotten worse’. Reed is continuing to consult with doctors and think about his decision for next season. He continues to [...]
EbonyBird.com’s 2010 Special Teams MVP
Sometimes the new kid on the block turns into the most popular kid at school instantly. In a Ravens sense, the new kid of the block was Billy Cundiff, and he is EbonyBird.com’s Special Teams MVP for the season. Cundiff was 12-17 on the season after signing with the Ravens, and two of those 5 misses were unrealistic 50+ yarders. Cundiff had several big games, including his 5-6 performance in his first game donning the purple and hitting the game- winning field goal in overtime against the Squealers in Week 12. The impact of Cundiff can not be seen in [...]
EbonyBird.com’s 2010 Play of The Year
Today, we take a look at the Ravens’ single best play of the year. Whether it was just a phenomenal effort or whether it changed the course of the season, this award goes to that single play that is the most memorable of the year. Now for award purposes, this is going to be a positive play. This year, several plays defined the Ravens season. Numerous Frank Walker PIs that cost us wins, Steve Hauschka misses that caused us wins, Mark Clayton dropping the ball, Ed Reed pitching his interception. But putting all of those aside, the top Ravens play of [...]
Money Talk
Recently, there has been some discussion on which sport has players that are more overpaid, the NFL or the MLB. Now, it is no secret that the average MLB player makes a good deal more than the average NFL player, 3.2 million to 1.8 million to be precise. Do baseball players deserve this much more money? I say no, and here is why. The most common reason given for the baseball players to be making more money than NFL players is because they play more games. So what if they play more games. Those are two completely different types of [...]
