Baltimore Colts tight end John Mackey passed away on Thursday after battling with dementia for the past 10 years. Mackey reinvented the tight end position and made it what it is today. Until Mackey, pass catching tight ends were nowhere to be seen in the sport of football. It is because of his extreme passion and intensity that gained him the respect as one of, if not the best tight end in NFL history. The 6’4″ 224 lb Mackey was the first of his kind. The power and elegance that he ran with was astonishing to say the least. The Hall of Fame tight end will go down in infamy as not only an extraordinary player, but a great person.
