Logan Mankins staying in New England

According to a recent tweet from @AdamSchefter, Pro-Bowl guard Logan Mankins will be staying with the New England Patriots after coming to terms on a 6 year deal with the team.

Mankins, a first round draft pick of New England in 2005, held out last season angry about not being able to become an unrestricted free agent due to the terms of the expiring NFL collective bargaining agreement.  He reported to the team during week 9 of the NFL season, 3 games earlier than he had to to reach the 6 games he needed to accrue a full season service time.  Mankins had been very verbal about his frustration with the Patriots not offering him a long term deal.  He now has received his wish.  This is good news for the Pats and bad news for the rest of the league that may have wanted to sign him.  It is likely he will retire a Patriot with this contract.
