Phillip Livas, a former undrafted rookie free agent from Louisana Tech, has signed with the Baltimore Ravens this afternoon. Livas is a return specialist who was cut from the Miami Dolphins this season after not making the final roster. Livas will get a chance to provide a much needed boost to the Ravens special teams unit.
After the Ravens released veteran kicker Shayne Graham, who was signed a few weeks ago to fill in for the injured Billy Cundiff, the Ravens promoted OL Justin Boren from the practice squad and signed Livas to take his place. Now that Cundiff’s calf is starting to heal, Graham’s services are no longer needed.
The Ravens have had trouble on special teams recently, allowing several return touchdowns this season. Additionally, the Ravens have relied on starting cornerback Lardarius Webb to return punts, which is undesirable due to the increased chance of injury it adds to a defensive starter. Perhaps Livas will shine in practice and be able to make an impact with the Ravens during their playoff run.
