Backup RB Allen Takes Starting Reps At Mandatory Minicamp With Ray Rice A No-Show

An unlikely player is getting the first team reps at running back during the Baltimore Ravens minicamp. Second year player, Anthony Allen, is taking the majority of the carries as Ray Rice is still dealing with contract negotiations. Behind Allen are two other backs with even less experience. Damien Berry, an undrafted rookie free agent last season, and third round pick Bernard Pierce are learning from the sideline as Allen has spent the majority of minicamp with the first-team offense.

While Ray Rice is expected to be back soon, it’s always a positive to see younger players get experience early. Although signing a veteran back is still a posibility for the Ravens, Allen has looked sharp thus far and has the physicality to fit into the backup role nicely.
