Early Game Recaps

Another slew of games is in the books and we have had several surprises and a pair of excelent games. Lets dive right in to the mix.

-The Panthers just lost a heartbreaker to the Atlanta Falcons in the Georgia Dome. Leading by a point with the ball and about 70 seconds left on the clock Cam Newton fumbled on a 3rd and 2 attempt where he would have had the game ending first down if he had covered the ball. The PAnthers recovered and punted to pin the Falcons on their own 1 yard line but a foolish defensive lapse by former Raven Haruki Nakamura and an even more foolish pass interference allowed the Falcons to drive 77 yards in less than one minute and kick a game winning field goal.

-The Jets have to be the worst 2-2 team in recent memory. The 49ers came in a put a hurt on them to the tune of 34-0. Outside of Mark Sanchez and his 103 yards, not one Jets player crossed the 50 yared mark. The Jets turned the ball over 4 times and the 49ers defense was completely suffocating. This was a very easy game for the Niners.

-Through the first half it looked as if the Patriots would possibly loose their third consecutive game for the first time in the Brady Era. They entered halftime trailing 14-7, the Bills would eventually go up as high as 21-7 before the Patriots exploded on the way to a 52-28 comeback victory. That was a pretty impressive showing by the Patriots, but this was really more about how bad the Bills are. The AFC East might be the worst division in the NFL. The Patriots wil be in the playoffs, but im not sure any other team gets more than 7 wins. On a humorous note, Tom Brady lost his helmet at some point during halftime, check out this video to see how it plays out.

-Minnisota has won their second straight game after holding on the defeat the Detroit Lions 20-13. It is starting to look like we may have under-rated the Vikings defense after yet another great defensive showing. They basically eliminated Calvin Johnson from the game by limiting him to just 5 receptions for 54 yards. The Vikings are now 3-1, the Lions are 1-3. The Lions only TDS came on a Matt Stafford run.

-The Texans are now 4-1 after they returned twp Matt Hasselbeck INTs for TDs. Hasselbeck entered the game for the Injured Jake Locker and essentially threw it away. The positive for the Titans to take home is that Chris Johnson finally seems to be back on track after he rushed for 141 yards on 25 carries. The odd part of his stat line though was that he did not once rush for over 20 yards. On the Texans side, there wasnt any one thing they did great, but there was nothing they did poorly. This was a very complete game for them.

-Kansas City continues to be inept. They were beaten 34-20 today and that score doesnt come close to telling how bad they were. Matt Cassell was absolutely useless and I think it is starting to be safe to wonder how much longer Romeo Crennell keeps his job. It is also pretty fair to say that this is likely to be Crennells last head coaching job as he has now made a complete mess of the two teams he has been in control of(Browns and Chiefs). The Chiefs turned the ball over a ridiculous six times during this laugher. at halftime the score was 27-6 and the Chargers coasted the rest of the way. The Chargers didn’t play particularly great but they were repeatedly aided with short fields and gimme scores to make this look very easy.

-Seattle might be the least consistant team in the league right now. They have beaten two pretty good teams but they are currently 0-2 in their own division and 2-2 overall. today they lost to the Rams Rams Rookie kicker Greg Zeurlein had an ioncredible day by hitting 4 FGs including a 60 yarder and a 58 yarder. He had never hit from further than 54 yards before today. Russell Wilson was terrible for the Seahawks, he threw 3 INTs and had just 174 total yards. The Rams are now 2-2.

– this afternoon we have the third and final undefeated team playing as the Cardinals wil try to best the Dolphins on the way to 4-0. The Dolphins currently lead 3-0. The game to watch might be NEw Orleans @ Green Bay, I predicted an upset win for the Saints here and they are currently tied 7-7 in the first quarter. Enjoy the games Folks.
