So today, Bryant McKinnie was on NFL network talking all things Ravens. everything was going all fine and dandy until he was asked if he would take less to stay in Baltimore. I might be alone here, but his answer really pissed me off. He Said

"No, I did that last season, I already gave them a discount last season"

When pressed further he said

"Hey, They got a coupon last year."

With Warren Sapp yelling “its not double coupon time” in the background.

I have no issue with a player not taking less to stay with a team. I understand that this is likely the last contract McKinnie will get and he needs to get the most out of it. I have no problem with that part at all. My issue is with him saying that he gave the Ravens a discount last year.

First of all, you played in FOUR games last year. FOUR!!! I understand that the games were terrific and you played a huge part in the Ravens Super Bowl championship, but it was still four games. Do you know why you only played in 4 games? because you werent good enough, in shape enough or healthy enough to play in the other 16 games. first of all, you did not deserve more than you got last year and any team would have been completely out of their mind to pay you that.

Secondly, how exactly is it that you took a discount? By honoring the contract the Ravens signed you to when no other team in the league wanted you because you showed up 45 lbs overweight to training camp and were consequently cut? Really Bryant? By the way, how did you reward Baltimore for taking a chance on you? you showed up completely out of shape both seasons you were under contract. This year, the coaching staff decided to not to play you for an entire season because you werent in shape.

Lets pump the brakes and think about this. If Ray Rice doesnt pull of a miraculous 4th and 29 play, then the Ravens dont make the playoffs and you are almost certainly out of the league completely next year. yet you took less to stay in Baltimore this year?

Im sorry, I have been a McKinnie supporter in the past, but Im done with that non-sense. If I am the Ravens, I am going to let him be someone elses headache and I will make a run at Jermon Bushrod or take a chance on a LT in the draft like Terron Armstead. I dont want to have players like that in my locker-room. especially not after I lose more leadership than maybe any other team in NFL history in a single offseason(Lewis, Boldin, likely Reed). This guy is poison. Thanks for the play, you played well when you were in shape and motivated, I appreciate the part you played in getting a championship, but I will see you later. It’s been nice.
