I am not a lawyer, nor am I qualified to be a judge. Because of that I will keep this short and simple. Aaron Hernandez has been arrested and charged with first degree murder and five related gun charges. For those of you who don’t know, first degree murder is the most serious of the single murder charges. It involves willful and premeditated murder. Essentially it says the police believe that Hernandez made a decision to kill Odin Lloyd and then went, picked him up and killed him.

Hernandez was arrested and almost immediately taken to an arraignment where he was formally charged with the six chargers and the judge ruled he be held without bail on the argument by the prosecutor that the charges were sever enough and the case was strong enough that there should be no bail. being held without bail is fairly common in murder cases from what I understand.

Hernandez is currently on his was to a Massachusetts jail. His trial will play out over the coming months and like anyone, Hernandez is entitled to a fair trial and he is innocent until proven guilty. Things dont look great for him, but I refuse to judge him because I am not qualified to do so. I encourage other Ravens fans to do the same. When you think of doing it, just remember all the people who have judged Ray Lewis and the Ravens despite Ray being innocent of what happened in Atlanta in 1999.

Hernandez was also released by the Patriots almost immediately after he was arrested this morning. The Patriots had reportedly made the decision to release Hernandez if he were arrested, they did however expect the charge to be obstruction of justice and they were not prepared to see murder charges. The result for them was the same, and they didnt want him representing their team as anything more than a former player. The Patriots were prepared to cut Hernandez for any arrest in accusation with this case. As of this morning their offseason has gone from bad to a nightmare.

Here is the statement from the patriots.

"“A young man was murdered last week and we extend our sympathies to the family and friends who mourn his loss. Words cannot express the disappointment we feel knowing that one of our players was arrested as a result of this investigation. We realize that law enforcement investigations into this matter are ongoing. We support their efforts and respect the process. At this time, we believe this transaction is simply the right thing to do.”"
