The Ravens finally got some good news today. Not only did they re-sign Vonta Leach at a good price, but an MRI revealed no Ligament or Tendon damage for Dennis Pitta.

This is huge news because it means that the chances of Pittas injury being a long term(as in career) injury are very low. It was a clean break and fracture with no internal damage to any tissue. Thats a pretty miraculous thing. Harbaugh said today that he was only aware of this type of injury happening 6 times in football in the past, but it was a very frequent injury in car crashes.

While the news that Pittas 2013 season is over before it began is terrible, there is at least the silver lining that this is not a more serious injury that would threaten his career.

I for one, feel terrible not for the Ravens, who will be fine by the way, but for Pitta. Pitta was entering a contract year and was probably set to get paid like a top shelf TE in the 7mil. per year range. Now it woulf be fairly surprising if he got 5mil.. I would anticipate a one or two year deal to get done at some point so Pitta can prove he is healthy and then later he will get a shot at a big deal. This is a huge blow to his lifetime earning potential though.

Whats worse, is that Pitta is generally considered to be a stand up guy and a great person. It always sucks when the good ones get hurt.
