The worst thing possible in the preseason just happened. The Ravens suffered an injury to a key player.

Bernard Peirce ripped off a completely fantastic 20 yard touchdown run in which he shedded contact, reversed field and turned the corner and out raced a defender to the corner of the endzone. it displayed all of his skills in stunning fasion. but he came up very gimpy and took a while to get back up.

Pierce jogged off the field, but it still wasn’t pretty and it doesn’t mean he isn’t hurt. hopefully it isn’t a major injury. As I write this the field conditions in Tampa are dreadful. There is a driving rain and the field looks very uneven and choppy. not very good news during a preseason game. Unsafe playing conditions are no big deal and are just part of the game in the regular season, but during the preseason loose fields that can slip out from under players feet leading to injuries are about the worst thing you can get. I would expect the Ravens to put in their scrubs soon.

UPDATE: Pierce is walking up and down on the sideline and appears to be ok after his knee scare. I would still expect the worth while players to be pulled from this game before halftime.
