The Baltimore Ravens are absolutely stacked at the linebacker position, this much we know.  So stacked that they could afford to cut Josh Bynes last week, a player who started some games for the team as early as last season and played pretty well.  But are they deep enough that they would consider trading 2013 second round pick Arthur Brown?  ESPN’s Adam Caplan is reporting that they might be looking to do just that.

The news comes as a bit of a shock, especially after the Ravens touted Brown and 2014 first round pick C.J. Mosley as their inside linebacker duo of the future as recently as this offseason.  But Brown has so far failed to develop in his sophomore season, and was inactive for Sunday’s opener against the Bengals.  It has been a quick and decisive fall for the youngster.

Brown, 24, still has a ton of potential and upside.  It would be an uncharacteristic move by Ozzie Newsome, who generally likes to stockpile as much young talent as possible on the roster.  But with Daryl Smith looking like he has at least a couple of good years left, and the strong play of Mosley, it might make sense to try and get something for Brown while they can.

More from Ravens Rumors

Perhaps a linebacker needy team like the Kansas City Chiefs, who lost All-Pro Derrick Johnson Sunday for the season, have already given the Ravens a call.  It’s a move that would make perfect sense for both sides, and we know by now that Newsome isn’t afraid to pull off a trade while the season is underway.  Giving up on a second round pick after week one of their second season isn’t a move we see very often, but it could happen soon.
