As we head into the offseason and prepare for the craziness that is NFL free agency, we thought it would be fun to take a look ahead at some players that the Ravens might be interested in pursuing. While we can all dream about seeing our favorite team signing guys like Dez Bryant or Justin Houston (both free agents this year), we’re going to be a little more realistic and only look at players that might actually hit the market and draw interest from the Ravens.

Kenny Britt has always been an intriguing guy.  He possesses all the talent and measurables of a true, prototypical, number one NFL wide receiver.  He has great size at 6’3″ and 223 pounds, he runs a 4.5 40, and he’s still young at 26 years old.  Britt appeared to be headed for stardom after a strong rookie and sophomore season with the Titans, cresting 700 yards receiving each time and catching 9 touchdowns in 2010.

Kenny Britt would certainly come cheap, as he has yet to prove that he can play competent football for anybody other than Jeff Fischer.  He has yet to truly live up to the potential that made him a first round pick.

But Britt’s career went off the rails in 2011 when he tore his ACL and MCL, ending his season after only 3 games.  He struggled to regain form in 2012 and began the season with a suspension after numerous runs ins with the law.  Britt, in fact, has 9 recorded incidents with the police in his NFL career.  He found a cold free agent market last offseason, eventually signing a one year deal with the St. Louis Rams and the coach who drafted him in Tennessee, Jeff Fischer.

Britt bounced back somewhat this season, recording 48 receptions for 748 yards and 3 touchdowns.  It wasn’t really astounding by any means, considering how talent deficient the Rams’ wide receiving group is.  Britt appeared in 16 games, however, and set career highs in receptions and yards.  And perhaps most importantly, he kept his head on straight.

But would he make sense for the Ravens?  Kenny Britt would certainly come cheap, as he has yet to prove that he can play competent football for anybody other than Jeff Fischer.  He has yet to truly live up to the potential that made him a first round pick.  For those reasons, he is unlikely to find a hot free agent market and may end up settling for another short term deal in St. Louis.

Britt’s potential and low price might make him attractive to the Ravens, who need a big bodied receiver that can do it all.  His upside is unquestionable, and the Ravens have a strong support system and coaching staff in place.  A guy like Steve Smith would be a good influence on Britt, who needs somebody to keep him focused.  The rewards for babysitting Britt and keeping him motivated could be immense.
