Welcome to the Daily Caw, where we round up all the latest Ravens news and notes from around the web for your convenience.  Today we gauge the Ravens’ interest in retaining Justin Forsett, scope out the details of Terrence Cody’s release, check out how our guys performed in the Pro Bowl, and go over some mistakes the team can’t afford to make this offseason.

Elvis Dumervil Records 2 Sacks in Pro Bowl

Dumervil had 17 sacks during the regular season, and he added two more in the Pro Bowl, a game where usually no one plays defense.  Actually, his sacks were the only ones in the entire game.

Mistakes the Ravens Can’t Afford to Make

Pretty good list, and we agree that the team needs to bring back Justin Forsett and probably Torrey Smith.  Both of those guys should be affordable enough to do so, if the team can create some cap space elsewhere (a la Haloti Ngata and Lardarius Webb’s bloated contracts).

Ravens Want to Re-Sign Justin Forsett

As they should, since the price should be right.  Even though he broke out last season, Forsett did it in a particular system and he is 29 years old.  Plus, the running back market ain’t what it used to be.

Terrence Cody Cut Amid Animal Cruelty Investigation

Though he has yet to be charged with a crime, Cody was on his way to free agency regardless.  The Ravens were almost a lock to cut the 2010 draft bust even if these allegations never came to light.  It just made the decision come a little quicker.

What to Expect From Marc Trestman’s Offense

Though the system may not change much, the Ravens would be wise to lend an ear to Trestman’s ideas. He has a proven track record of offensive success, and his concepts of run blocking are quite similar to what the Ravens ran last season…very successfully.
