Welcome to the Daily Caw, where we round up all the latest Ravens news and notes from around the web.  Today we bring you news of Will Hill’s latest run in with the law, find out how badly the Ravens missed Jimmy Smith, why the team should lock up Justin Tucker now, and the coaching staff is set for 2015.

Will Hill’s Legal Woes Continue

The Ravens’ safety just can’t seem to stay out of trouble through his short NFL career.  After he seemed to be on the straight and narrow following a season of keeping his name out of the headlines, Hill make the boneheaded mistake of not paying his child support.  Hill reportedly wasn’t aware of the arrest warrant, which was issued in March of last year in New Jersey.

The Ravens Missed Jimmy Smith, But How Badly?

Um, pretty bad.  The team went from being #11 in passer rating at 86.8 down to 24th at 93.8.  Even more impressive is how the Ravens were first in the NFL with the fewest TD passes allowed before Smith’s injury, but dropped to 13th after he went down.

Ravens Should Lock Up Justin Tucker Now

Tucker is a restricted free agent this season and is currently the NFL’s most accurate kicker.  While kickers are typically replaceable, we have also seen what happens to teams that struggle to find one who can make the clutch kicks.

Ravens Finalize Coaching Staff

After an offseason filled with turnover, the Ravens have finalized their coaching staff for 2014.  Chris Hewitt, formerly the assistant secondary coach, has been promoted to defensive backs coach to replace Steve Spagnuolo.  Matt Weiss, who was the team’s defensive quality control and linebackers assistant coach last season, takes over as cornerbacks coach.
