Welcome to the Daily Caw, where we round up all the latest Ravens news and notes from around the web. Today we discuss Will Hill’s petition for the Ravens to sign Giants safety Antrel Rolle, Justin Forsett is looking for a committment, some offseason advice for the team, and clearing up some confusion regarding Dennis Pitta’s contract situation.
Will Hill Wants Antrel Rolle in Baltimore
Hill was openly campaigning on his Instagram account yesterday for the Ravens to sign impending free agent safety Antrel Rolle. The two played together for the Giants, and the Ravens are obviously looking for upgrades at the safety position. But Rolle, who graded out as only the 81st ranked safety in the NFL last season by Pro Football Focus, wouldn’t really be an upgrade at this point.
Offseason Advice for the Ravens
Among the obvious (fix the secondary, try and negotiate with Haloti Ngata), is the question the team faces at running back. If not Justin Forsett, then who?
I felt that the Ravens should cut Canty last offseason, and this time around the team can save $2.66 million against the cap by letting the 32 year old walk.
Justin Forsett Wants a Commitment
After bouncing around various rosters the last few years, you can’t blame the guy. A 2-3 year deal with a one year guarantee makes sense for both sides.
Clearing up Dennis Pitta’s Contract Confusion
It’s pretty simple, actually. Pitta’s salary of $4 million is guaranteed for 2015, and if the Ravens cut him he would actually count $6.6 million more against the cap – taking up $12.8 million in space. Regardless of what happens, there is no reason to cut him this year.
