Cornerback is a popular position to mock to the Baltimore Ravens, even in spite of all the recent and future turnover at the wide receiver position.  Heck, even I made the call for the team in my post-combine mock, but I tend to like Todd McShay’s latest selection even more.

In the “Todd McShay Mock Draft 3.0,” as those in the know call it, ESPN’s “other” draft expert has the Ravens selecting Washington cornerback Marcus Peters at the end of the first round.  Netting Peters with the 26th pick would be a bit of a coup for the Ravens to say the least.

I currently have Peters going 22nd to the Pittsburgh Steelers, which admittedly may even be a little low for a guy who has the talent of a top 5-10 pick.  If Peters is available at 26, you would certainly expect the Ravens to have a hard time passing on a guy who is obviously more NFL ready than LSU’s Jalen Collins.

The biggest concern with Marcus Peters is his attitude, which got him kicked out of Washington’s football program after numerous run-ins with the coaching staff.  He followed that up with a very mediocre performance at the combine, which might seal his fate as a slider in the draft.

The Ravens have publicly stated that they won’t have any players with domestic violence issues on their draft board, but Peters’ issues are not of that variety.  They seem to be a bit more on a maturity level, a la Dez Bryant.  If coaches feel like they can manage those issues, taking Marcus Peters at the end of the first round will likely turn out to be a steal, much like the gamble on Jimmy Smith was.
