The Baltimore Ravens have certainly done their homework this offseason in regards to cornerbacks, running backs, and wide receivers.  One could decipher that interest in a multitude of ways, but the way I see it is simple: they are prepared to draft the best player available at these positions, in any round of the draft.

We are just learning that the Ravens met with another corner we can add to our growing list, Oklahoma’s Julian Wilson.  Wilson isn’t a household name like the Trae Waynes’, Kevin Johnson’s, and Marcus Peters’ of the world, but he does have prototypical NFL corner size and speed at 6’2″ and 205 pounds with a 4.47 40 time under his belt.

Wilson has the smarts as well, earning Academic All-Big 12 honors for four straight years in college.  He started nine games in 2014, finishing with 39 tackles and one interception.  Wilson also started 11 games in 2013 and two in 2012, appearing in all 13 games in both seasons.  He has also shown versatility with the ability to play safety as well.

Despite his prototypical size and experience, Wilson simply didn’t produce in college.  He has great speed on the track but is much slower on the field, and he lacks toughness and play strength.  He hasn’t shown a willingness to fight through receivers or make plays on the ball.  Simply put, Julian Wilson needs to learn how to cover, get physical, and work on his ball skills to succeed at the NFL level.

Those deficiencies are enough that Wilson is projected to be drafted in the later rounds or even go undrafted. At that price, his size, speed, and intelligence would make him a fantastic flyer for the corner needy Ravens.
