The Baltimore Ravens drafted rookie running back Javorius “Buck” Allen in the 4th round of the 2015 NFL Draft with an eye towards the future.  With their current starter, Justin Forsett, entering the dreaded running back decline age, they wanted to bring in a guy who could learn and grow behind him.

Following sophomore back Lorenzo Taliaferro’s multiple week injury, Allen’s role might be bigger than expected as he instantly rises to the #2 spot behind Forsett.  And for the record, Forsett has a high opinion of the rookie, recently comparing him to one of the NFL’s best running backs – Arian Foster.

And Forsett should know, as he spent a good bit of time backing up Foster during his time in Houston in 2012.  So far, Allen hasn’t had a stellar preseason, posting a disappointing 3.2 yards per carry average. But Forsett praised the rookie’s decision making, cutting, and stride length.

For the record, I hope Forsett is right about Allen’s ability, but let’s also hope that he doesn’t pick up Foster’s propensity for soft tissue injuries.
