Today is the deadline for all 32 NFL teams to trim their rosters down from 90 players to 75.  These are generally the easy cuts that don’t bring too many surprises, and so far we haven’t seen any names that can be considered shocking at all.

Those surprises will happen when teams are forced to make the difficult decisions that will trim their rosters down to 53 players ahead of the regular season’s start.  For the Ravens, injuries and unsettled position battles are sure to change the landscape of their decisions.

Another consideration is poor play by guys who the Ravens thought would be good to go.  Backup quarterback Matt Schaub is one such example.  But will his shaky play convince the Ravens to use a roster spot on a third quarterback, which is something they haven’t done in years?

While I personally doubt it, the latest final roster projection at Bleacher Report has 3rd QB Bryn Renner making the cut.  Keeping a third QB behind durable starter Joe Flacco seems like a luxury when your team is fighting a number of injuries along the offensive line.

It seems much more likely that the Ravens will keep a 9th o-lineman or perhaps even a 7th wide receiver, but it’s anybody’s guess at this point.  The Ravens can’t be happy with Matt Schaub and should be legitimately worried about the possibility that he could be forced into action at some point.

But then again, that’s a problem most every team has these days with viable quarterbacks in short supply.
