Myles Jack Is Too Big Of A Risk For The Baltimore Ravens

Last season the Baltimore Ravens drafted Breshad Perriman in the first round but  he never stepped on the field in his rookie season. The Ravens cannot draft a player with the sixth overall pick who has major injury concerns. Getting nothing from their first round draft pick last season, the Ravens know too well, the risk involved with a first round pick. That’s why Myles Jack should not be an option for the Ravens on Thursday night.

I’ve spent a big part of the draft process looking at Jack. I think he’s a great fit for the Ravens. He certainly would fill the Daryl Smith void at the linebacker position. Jack has tremendous talent; he even looks like a young Ray Lewis. But ever since the reports of him having a problem with his knee, a problem that is potentially a ticking time bomb that could end his career, he’s been off the table in my eyes.

More from Ravens Draft

If it were not for the concerns with his knee that may require intense surgery on an unpredictable time down the line, it would be hard not to draft Jack. Jack has a great football IQ, he has sideline to sideline speed and he has an energy to him that could ignite the Ravens defense. Jack is one of my favorite players in this draft.

The idea of going into another season worrying when we’ll see our first round pick is scary. The idea that the Ravens first round investment may not make it to his second contract is horrifying. Maybe the reports are wrong. If the Ravens are okay with his medical situation, they can take the chance.

The Ravens need to hit on their first round pick though. The team needs a young superstar. They need a player that will make an immediate player. They also need to think about the future here too. Even though Jack is potentially a better player than a DeForest Buckner or a Vernon Hargreaves, he is less of a sure thing. The Ravens cannot gamble with this pick.
