Terrell Pryor would be the perfect free agent pick up for the Baltimore Ravens. It looks like he will hit the open market and he would be one of the most exciting players available:

So I came by a report by Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio that the Browns will probably let Pryor hit the open market.

"“Via Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the team hasn’t changed its position that the franchise tag won’t be applied to Pryor. This year, the receiver version of the tag will consume 9.39 percent of the total salary cap. At the low end of the currently-expected range of $166 million, that’s $15.58 million.”"

The Cleveland Browns don’t have a ton of exciting young talent on their roster. They have been one of the worst teams in the NFL for a long time. That’s why it is surprising that an exciting player like Pryor wouldn’t be franchise tagged. Pryor is a young receiver who is just starting to figure out how good he is.

The Ravens typically sign veteran receivers that only have a few years left of their peak production. They traded for Anquan Boldin. They have signed guys like Derrick Mason, T.J. Houshmandzadeh, and the notorious big catch dropper, Lee Evans. Pryor is 27 years old and this is just the beginning for him. The Ravens have never signed a player like Pryor at the free agency position. This is a chance to get Joe Flacco a star receiver in his prime.

More from Ebony Bird

The former quarterback has blossomed beautifully at the wide receiver position. His 6’4″ frame and his great athletic ability translate perfectly to the position. His stats from this past season are incredible. He had 77 receptions for 1,071 yards and four touchdowns. Pryor had 10 games with  five receptions or more.

The Ravens offense seemed to be pass happy last season, because it absolutely was. Joe Flacco threw the football more than Starbucks brewed coffee this season. Look at what the Ravens passing game had to work with though; a often injured Steve Smith Sr., a not too explosive Dennis Pitta and Mike Wallace. If the Ravens are going to continue on this course with Marty Mornhinweg, the least they could do is provide Flacco a legitimate superstar to throw to.

The Bottom Line:

Fans in Baltimore will never get over the trade that sent Anquan Boldin to the San Francisco 49ers. That’s because Flacco loved throwing the jump ball to Boldin. Flacco needs a player that he can trust to go up and make the tough catch. That is exactly what Terrell Pryor is. Imagine having a faster, younger Boldin for Flacco to work with. That sounds very appealing.

When free agency starts, the Ravens are never the team that makes the biggest splash. It may be time to make a few ripples in the market. It may be time to get away from their MO and get a stud wide receiver in his prime. Pryor is the perfect player to bring excitement back to the Ravens offense. If the Browns really don’t tag Pryor, Ozzie Newsome has to make this happen.
