Anquan Boldin is coming back to play another NFL season and the Ravens should bring him back

Today wide receiver Anquan Boldin announced that he will be returning for a 15th season in the NFL. This is big news for teams that are still looking for wide receivers, including the Baltimore Ravens. Could it be a potential reunion?

Boldin is very familiar with Baltimore. He spent three seasons with the Ravens from 2010-2012. During that time he caught for over 2,000 yards and 14 touchdowns. He was one of the main contributors in the Ravens 2012 Super Bowl run. When there was a crucial catch to be made, he was there to make it. During the 2013 offseason, the Ravens traded Boldin to the 49ers for a 6th round draft pick. Since then he has spent three seasons with the 49ers and one season with the Detroit Lions.

Type of Receiver Ravens need

I understand the argument against his age, but Boldin would fit perfectly back with the Ravens. After losing out on Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery, Boldin could still be a viable option. He could be brought in on a veteran minimum or a much cheaper contract. He has shown that he can play at a high level, considering he caught eight touchdowns for the Lions last season. Even if he isn’t putting up 1,000 yard seasons, it is still a receiver that is familiar with the organization and especially with the quarterback.

The Ravens have been looking for a possession receiver since they traded away Boldin. He knows how to the find the sticks and is very good at catching the football. Mike Wallace and Breshad Perriman are more of speedy deep threats. The closest thing the Ravens have to a possession receiver is Dennis Pitta and he cannot do it all. It may only be a one or two year deal but it is still worth it to take a chance and try to bring him back.
