The Baltimore Ravens must draft one of the top receivers in the 2017 NFL Draft. They don’t have a choice.

The Baltimore Ravens have never drafted receivers well. That’s not an excuse to ignore the position in the 2017 NFL Draft. The Bengals traditionally stink at taking quarterbacks, should they have not selected Andy Dalton? The Ravens have a dire need at the wide receiver position and they must fill it.

If the Ravens are serious about giving Joe Flacco some weapons, they will go get one in the first round. Luckily for the purple and black, you can’t miss on the top three receivers in the draft. Corey Davis is a Julio Jones like player. Mike Williams reminds me of A.J. Green and John Ross has the potential to be an Antonio Brown look alike. These three receiver prospects are sure things. If the Ravens take one of these receivers, not even they could mess it up.

The Ravens arguably have the weakest receiving group in the AFC North. The Steelers have the best receiver in the league. A.J. Green gives the Bengals an elite weapon that has always hurt the Ravens. The Browns may have lost Terrelle Pryor to free agency, but at least they had a flashy receiver in recent memory. The Ravens have never had a true number one receiver. They’ve had very good veterans, but they never had one of the elite game changers of the position, in their prime.

Joe Flacco’s contract is getting ridiculous. The last time he played up to his contract was the 2014 season. To be fair though, that’s the last time the offense was even remotely good around him. Flacco needs weapons and an offensive line. It’s almost like the Ravens don’t want to help Flacco out. This doesn’t make any sense. Like him or not, the Ravens are financially glued to the veteran quarterback. Get him some weapons.

The Bottom Line

The first round of the NFL Draft is a chance for the Ravens to not only get a superstar wide receiver, but their first superstar wide receiver. If the Ravens have to trade up, they have to trade up. Sure, JuJu Smith-Schuster is an option in the second round but that’s not the best the Ravens can do. The biggest problem remaining on the roster is wide receiver. They have to go get one. It’s Corey Davis/Mike Williams/John Ross or bust. I don’t even care which one they end up with. I just want a game changing receiver in his prime… for once.
