The Baltimore Ravens have re-signed three free agents back on to their roster.

Free agency has been quiet but today the Ravens announced that they are re-signing three free agents back to their roster. Offensive tackle James Hurst, offensive guard Ryan Jensen, and wide receiver Chris Matthews.

Hurst and Jensen are restricted free agents and  signed their tenders. The Ravens will owe about $1.789 million for both of the players this upcoming season. Matthews is an exclusive rights free agent, which means that he has spent less than two season actually playing in the NFL. He is only allowed to sign with his previous team if they give him a qualifying offer.

It’s not anything glamorous but adding Hurst and Jensen brings needed depth to the offensive line. Expect more depth to be added via the draft and possibly free agency. With questions at right tackle, Hurst could be in competition to start. With that being said, he has not played well when given the opportunity. Jensen will provide depth behind Marshal Yanda and Alex Lewis for the upcoming season. He’s essentially taking the role of Vlad Ducasse and has the ability to jump in if needed.

Matthews became well known for his breakout performance in the 2014 Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks. He went from working at Foot Locker earlier in the season to catching four passes for 109 yards and one touchdown in the Super Bowl. He signed with the Ravens practice squad in 2015 and has been on the team ever since. Matthews could very well get a shot at playing this season. He has the frame at 6’5″ so it would not surprise me to see him on the 53-man roster some point in the season.
