The Ravens have a history of great defense. Today we have a contest between two of the best defensive players in that tradition. It’s Tony Siragusa Vs. Bart Scott.

Today the Ravens Legends Bracket gives us one of the toughest contests of the first round. Tony Siragusa is one of the most popular players in franchise history. He was an unforgettable character from the team’s first Super Bowl run. “The Goose” drew stiff competition though, being paired with Bart Scott. Scott was a passionate player who played next to the most passionate player, Ray Lewis. We have two fan favorites here, but only one player can walk on to the second round.

Why Bart Scott is a Ravens legend:

Bart Scott proved a lot people wrong in his career. In 2002 he came to Baltimore as an undrafted free agent. When he left the Ravens to lead the Jets defense, after the 2009 season, he left as a star. Scott had over 700 career tackles and 25 sacks. Scott was a downhill linebacker who made things happen.

He was always on; he was one of the most charismatic players we’ve ever seen. The Ravens clearly were not shy during Scotts run with the team. Scott, Lewis and Terrell Suggs being in the linebacker group together was unforgettably  fun.

Scott will always be remembered for one play over all the others. His iconic sack of Ben Roethlisberger was something I could play on an endless loop. Knocking the air out of Big Ben is a really good way to earn favor in Baltimore.

Why Tony Siragusa is a Ravens legend:

“The Goose” was a mammoth defensive tackle who fit right in with the purple and black. The 2000 Ravens defense was legendary for stopping the run. Siragusa was a big part of that. Siragusa was everything a defensive tackle should be. He was a huge space eater, who could penetrate and make plays in the backfield.

He is most remembered for his sack on Rich Gannon in the 2000 AFC Championship game. Siragusa practically swallowed Gannon up with his stomach. You cannot tell the story of the 2000 Ravens without Siragusa. He was an experienced player who brought a lot to the table.

Winner: Tony Siragusa

This was the closest battle we had. It came down to a 4-4 tie. A coin flip sent Siragusa to a much deserved second round battle. This was a great contest.
