How do the Baltimore Ravens fare in cap space going forward?

With free agency dying down, it’s a good time to see where teams sit with their cap space. More specifically, we look at the Baltimore Ravens and how much cap room they currently have. A lot of cap casualties have been cut, but there still could be some big moves left.

OverTheCap.com has provided an updated list for all 32 of the NFL teams as of yesterday May 20th. The Baltimore Ravens currently rank 26th with about $3.6 million left in cap space. To put this in to perspective, the next closest cap space in the AFC North is the Bengals with $19 million. The Browns have a whopping $57 million left.

This shouldn’t be a surprise if you are a Ravens fan. We knew going into the offseason that they were going to be tight on cap space. Yet they were still able to bring in some big name free agents. In the process they also lost out on some of their big players. It’s what happens every year in the NFL.

Will we see more free agents?

The Ravens made a lot of moves early in free agency, but they still have been linked to some targets. It makes sense, especially since they still have a number of holes to fill before the season. Some of the bigger names include Nick Mangold, King Dunlap and Victor Cruz.

It will be interesting to see how their current cap space affects these free agent talks. The Ravens could use a veteran on the line or at wide receiver. Those two positions are the biggest concerns for the team right now. It just all comes down to money and finding the right fit. These free agents are being targeted by other teams with more money. The Ravens may not have the most cap space to sign these guys, but they have a historic front office and a franchise built on winning. It’s one of the reasons why a free agent like Tony Jefferson took less money to come play for the Ravens.
