The Baltimore Ravens need Patrick Onwuasor to step up in the 2019 season. Here are three goals for the young linebacker entering his most important season yet:

1. Be an every down linebacker

If the Ravens defense is on the field, Patrick Onwuasor needs to be able to be on the field. He needs to hog snaps on the defensive side of the football. Onwuasor’s goal should be to show the Ravens that in any situation he is the best player to be in the heart of the defense. He needs to be able to cover and he needs to be able to make stops in the backfield. Onwuasor is now a leader of the defense.

He is the natural successor to C.J. Mosley. That means Onwuasor is filling the shoes of a three time Pro Bowl linebacker. This is a bigger role than Onwuasor is used to playing. He is used to rotating in and out of the game. He will still have some plays where he is on the sideline but there will be much fewer of them. Onwuasor is all the sudden the most experienced middle linebacker on the roster. The expectations are higher and the workload is greater.

Onwuasor’s goal should be to come off the field as few times as possible this season. Mosley was one of the most consistent forces on the Ravens defense. He was focused on making stops from the first defensive play to the last. His goal should be to be the heart and soul of this defense. He needs to lead by example the way Mosley did.
