in 24 hours, the draft will be underway. if you believe the reporting of Gay Glazer, the Chiefs will probably have already selceted Eric Fisher and the Jags or Raiders will be on the clock. So what will the Ravens be doing? prepping for a giant trade? waiting patiently? watching psych? maybe so. Here is my best guess though.

Round 1, Pick 10(from Tennessee)- Lane Johnson, OT, Oklahoma

Because why not. Rumors have swirled today that the Ravens are poised to strike if Lane Johnson slips at all and this is their chance. The Cardinals insiders all say the Cards are happy with their OTs and they would rather have an impact defender so If The Raiders pass on a tackle, then it becomes likely that Johnson could fall out of the top 10. The Ravens know if they want him that he wont get past San Diego at 11 so getting him at 10 is the best they could hope to do. If there is any credence to todays rumors, this is the scenario that will play out tomorrow night. The Ravens trade their 1st(32) and 3rd(94) round picks this year and next years 1st and 4th rounders. This is similar to the trade the Falcons made for Julio Jones(2 1sts, a 2nd, 2 4ths) but the value is a bit lower because the 10th pick is worth less than the 6th, and top 10 teams are trying so desperately to trade out because of the weak draft at the top and increased mid round value.

Round 3, Pick 74(from San Fran)- Sio Moore, ILB, UConn

The Ravens trade again, this time going backwards in a trade with San Fran. The Ravens net a 5th rounder and a swap of 6th and seventh rounders(san fran 180 for BAL 238) for the trade back. Moore is probably a player the Ravens are targeting anyway so this is a solid deal. Moore played all over the place at UConn but projects as an ILB in the NFL. The move gives the Ravens some depth inside and another competitor and a very versatile guy.

Round 4, Pick 129- Phillip Thomas, S, Fresno St.

Thomas could go higher than this, but injury concerns push him down and the Ravens snag a future starter at S. Thomas is probably the most complete FS in this draft. He could be a monster steal.

Round 4, Pick 130(compensatory)- Chris Harper, WR, Kansas St.

Harper has been linked to the Ravens more than maybe any other player in the draft. The Ravens reportedly absolutely love him. One scout said he beleives the Ravens have a first round grade on Harper. He isnt expected to come off the board until the late 4th or 5th round so that lines up here. Harper is a Boldin clone. Not great speed but hyper physical and strong with the ball in the air.

Round 5, Pick 157(from San Fran)- Keith Pough, ILB, Howard

The Ravens have met with Pough multiple times and are reportedly very high on him. this is a little before he is projected to come off the board, so the Ravens reach a little but they get the guy they want. Pough is another competitor on the inside of the Ravens defense.

Round 5, Pick 165- Traded

The Ravens ship this pick off in exchange for a 2014 4th rounder, recouping the pick the lost trading for Lane Johnson. The Ravens already had the 49ers extra 5th rounder, so a trade completely out of this pick makes sense.

Round 5, pick 168(compensatory)- Barrett Jones, OL, Alabama

Barrett Jones is a second or third round talent, but scouts project him to slide to much later because he is expected to miss, at best the first 6 games of the season as he sits on the PUP list. Jones is a future investment, but he will eventually add depth and a potential starter to the Ravens interior line. He also could potentially play RT if the Ravens were to lose Michael Oher in free agency next year.

Round 6, Pick 180(from San Fran)- Robert Lester, FS, Alabama

I like Lester a lot. Ozzie likes Alabama guys a lot. Lester is projected more or less in this range and the Ravens could use more depth at safety so the pick makes sense. Lester also has a lot of potential and will likely be one of the best players remaining at this point.

Round 6, Pick 199(from San Fran)- Demetrius McCray, CB, Appalachian State

McCray is a long rangy corner who will be drafted lower than he should because he comes from a small school. McCray is a good project corner with the size the Ravens love in their corners.

Round 6, Pick 200- Dennard Robinson, Athlete, Michigan

Someone is going to take a chance on him, the Ravens have a billion picks even after trading up in the first so why not. Robinson can play RB or WR and will compete as a returner so Jacoby Jones might be able to play more on offense.

Round 6, Pick 203(compensatory)- Tommy Bohanon, FB, Wake Forest

The Ravens are likely to either cut or not resign Vonta Leach within the next 12 months. They need a backup plan there.

Round 7 Pick 247(compensatory)- Marquess Wilson, WR, Washington St.

Wilson has some character questions, but he is undoubtably the best player left on the board at this point so he is worth a chance here.

With just one week left until the NFL draft, I have just 2 remaining 7 round mocks left to do. This week, I thought it would be fun to take a less practical look and a more idealistic look at the draft. Here is my take for the best case scenario for the Ravens in the draft.

Round 1, Pick 32- Keenan Allen, WR, Cal

Ok, maybe i am hammering this into the ground, but i still believe Allen is not only the top WR in the draft, but the best player the Ravens could probably land and he has a decent chance of being either there at 32 or just a few spots of trade up away. Allen has all the talent in the world and he is a ferocious competitor. He is a beast over the middle and outside the numbers as a possession guy. He reminds me a lot of a young Derrick Mason.

Round 2, Pick 62- David Amerson, CB/S, NC State

Amerson was thought to be a first round lock and a possible top 10 pick before this past season started. unfortunately he took a lot of risks, played overly aggressive football trying to force turnovers and ended up having a very poor season. Amerson probably wont be around at 62, but if he is he would be a slam dunk pick. He can play either corner or either safety spot. He has the speed and size to play any of the secondary positions. many people, including myself, think his long term position is at free safety, but he will probably start as a rotational safety and corner while he gets used to the NFL game. Amerson is a bit of a project, but he is one of the most talented players in the draft.

Round 3, Pick 94- Terron Armstead, OT, Arkansas Pine-Bluff

Many of you probably know Armstead from when he blew up the combine with his insane athleticism. after clocking a 4.6 forty and raising the eyebrow of every scout in the building Armstead went on to be in the top 3 of every measurable event and looked very good in position drills. Armstead is very light on his feet and has the size and skill to be a starting LT in the league. like Amerson, he needs a little work, he might have to play a year at LG, but with the Ravens talking about KO playing LT next year, then this would be an ideal fit. play him at LG and KO at LT and then next year switch their positions to each of their more natural spots.

Round 4, Pick 129- Jon Bostic, ILB, Florida

Bostic is a guy i have had mocked to the Ravens repeatedly for quite some time now. I had him as a third rounder because i dont think he will last till the end of the 4th, but in my dream draft Bostic is there waiting for them at 129 which allows them to take the falling Armstead and still get Bostic. Bostic is a very equivalent product to Kevin Minter, he just has a little less polish and is a little more athletic. He would be an ideal fit in the Ravens defense.

Round 4, pick 130- Baccari Rambo, FS, Georgia

Rambo has the best ball skills in this draft. period. He is a solid prospect as a center-fielder type safety. He lacks ideal top end speed and needs to study more film, but he has a really high upside. I love DJ Swearinger and Jonathan Cyprien, but it didn’t work out in the first 2 rounds so they snag Rambo in the fourth. This isn’t way low for Rambo, but it is a bit low. He is projected to be a late third to mid fourth rounder, so i have him slipping about 15-20 slots.

Round 5, pick 165- Brian Winters, OT, Kent St.

Winters is an under the radar guy right now. He has the potential to be a really good mid round guard pickup and Eric DeCosta recently said he was a really good looking left tackle prospect. Winters played LT in college, but most believe he projects better to guard. Either way, the Ravens could use a LT or interior line depth so this is a no brainer. Winters is projected anywhere from the second round to the 6th round depending on who you ask. in the Ravens ideal scenario he slips deep into the 5th.

Round 5, pick 168- Travis Kelce, TE, Temple

I believe there is a very good chance that the Ravens take a TE in this years draft. Both of their main TEs are free agents next year, so this pick makes a lot of sense. Kelce is a good looking prospect and a great athlete who could develop into the next great TE in the league. He could also bust out(like any other player in the draft), but lets stay positive here. TEs tend to slip so I have no problem stretching a little bit here. Kelce is projected to be a late third rounder by most.

Round 6, pick 199- JJ Wilcox, S, Georgia Southern

This might be the biggest faller in my ideal draft. Wilcox is projected to be a late third rounder and I am pushing him all the way down to the 6th. My reasoning? I’m not calling it best case scenario because it is overly likely to happen. Safety is a pretty subjective position and it is possible for them to take deep slides. Why not? Wilcox is a good looking SS prospect. he plays the run well, is passable in coverage and has shown some ability to cover TEs in man defensive looks. Wilcox didn’t play against elite competition(or anything close to elite) in college, but he has potential and would be a good pick, especially this late. He needs a year or two of development, but is a potential starter down the road.

Round 6, pick 200- Keith Pough, ILB, Howard

Pough is a super under the radar guy from ultra small school Howard. The Ravens have shown interest in him. He visited Baltimore about a month ago. Rumors are that the Ravens are high on him. most project him as a 5th rounder, but ideally the Ravens would be able to take him a bit later. Pough is a really good looking football player who isn’t the greatest athlete in the world. He can play outside rushing the passer or move inside at linebacker.

Round 6, pick 204- Oday Aboushi, OT, Virginia

Aboushi might be the most talented non-first round guard in this draft. The problem is that he has said several times that he only wants to play tackle. That is an issue because he doesn’t project well at tackle. because of that, and some other issues, Aboushi has gone from a second rounder to a late rounder. I have seen him commonly projected as a fringe fifth rounder, lets give him to the Ravens a little lower and call it good. Aboushi needs to get over himself and play guard. lets put him in the Ravens locker-room where it is all about team and nothing about individual and get him straightened out. He adds more depth to the Ravens line. in my dream scenario the Ravens have now picked up a LT, a LT/LG swing player and a LG/RG depth pick. not a bad haul for a triple dip.

Round 7, pick 239- Kwame Geathers, NT, Georgia

Kwame is a sliding player, but i like him. Geathers came into the season as a 2nd day prospect, but his lack of play time because of the dominance of John Jenkins has pushed him further and further down boards. Recently Greg Cossell said he believed Geathers would be a 6th or 7th rounder(i’ve been mocking him in the 5th). This is an ideal draft so i will take the latter and the Ravens snag him deep in the draft. Geathers is another depth signing for the defensive line(which has been a point of emphasis for the Ravens). Geathers could be a starter down the road, but he needs to get in better shape and conditioning.

Round 7, pick 248-Marquess Wilson, WR, Washington State

Wilson might be the steal of the draft. He had first round buzz around him coming into the season and played well. but the problem was he quit the WSU football team and started a smear campaign against the coach and athletic directer claiming he was mistreated as a player. There is no proof either way. Because of this perceived character and commitment issue, Wilson has taken a complete free fall down boards. The Ravens snag him here and get another reliable looking slot receiver to potentially replace Boldin.

Here is the list of the Ravens final haul

Keenan Allen, WR, Cal

David Amerson, CB/S, NC State

Terron Armstead, OT, Arkansas Pine-Bluff

Jon Bostic, ILB, Florida

Bacarri Rambo, FS, Georgia

Brian Winters, G/T, Kent St.

Travis Kelce, TE, Temple

JJ Wilcox, SS, Georgia Southern

Keith Pough, LB, Howard

Oday Aboushi, G/T, Virginia

Kwame Geathers, NT, Georgia

Marquess Wilson, WR, Washington St.

by my count that is two immediate starters(Allen, Bostic) 2 likely starters(Rambo, Armstead), 2 non-starting players that will be major contributors or role players day one(Amerson, Kelce) and a score of special teamers and depth guys that could be starters down the road. Thats not to shabby.
