Stock up: Deonte Thompson
Deonte Thompson was a proverbial dead man walking heading into game 2 of the preseason after being written off by pretty much everybody who covers the Ravens. Fighting for a roster spot at perhaps the deepest position on the team has made Thompson’s shot at sticking on the final roster just about impossible.
Saturday night, Thompson decided to make a statement to us doubters. First, he simply outran everybody and went end zone to end zone on a kickoff return, covering 108 yards for a touchdown. On the very next kickoff, he had another huge return, this time for 50 yards. It’s the kind of performance that gives coaches pause and makes you wonder if they have to make room for Thompson on the roster now (if he keeps it up, of course).
