#7 Overall: The San Francisco 49ers select:

42.
If the 49ers decide to stay with Colin Kaepernick, which they should as he is a perfect fit of Chip Kelly’s offense, then they should take the best player available, who in this case is DeForest Buckner. The 49ers have a lot of needs but they would be wrong in selecting a player based purely on need rather than value. They are in rebuilding mode and should pick a blue-chip prospect like Buckner.

In addition to having a great name, Bucker is a fantastic 3-4 DE who would pair beautifully with former teammate Erik Armstead to form an intimidating interior defensive line. The dude is a freak, and I mean that in the best way. He stands at 6’7″ and is super athletic for a guy his size. He can play multiple positions along San Francisco’s front seven. He is an excellent run defender and really stood out this year as a pass rusher, finishing with 10.5 sacks. He does play with a high pad level, but it is extremely difficult to not do so when you are Buckner’s enormous height. He makes plays at every level, stuffing running backs behind the line of scrimmage and chasing them down when they find a crease. He plays like his hair is on fire and is more flexible than most tall players.

Buckner reminds me so much of Calais Campbell, in that they have nearly identical physiques, yet Buckner seems pro-ready in the pass rushing department. He can be a fantastic player for the 49ers, just as Campbell is for the Cardinals.
. DE. Oregon. DeForest Buckner. 7. player
