1.  Marc Trestman loves to throw to his running backs

Marc Trestman’s first NFL Offensive Coordinator job came in 1988 with the Cleveland Browns. That season, running back Earnest Byner led the team in receptions. Running back Eric Metcalf finished second in reception the next season.  Trestman’s next OC job took him to San Francisco for two years. Derek Loville and Terry Kirby finished second in team receptions in 1995 and 1996 respectively. Some guy named Jerry Rice led the team each of those years.  Each season, each team the stat line looks the same. Running backs get a large amount of targets.

Currently, Justin Forsett is average at best coming out of the back field. Buck Allen came on strong in his rookie season with 45 catches, but Elliott potentially blows them both away. With limited targets and multiple quarterbacks, Elliott still managed 55 receptions in the past two seasons. Imagine 2014 Forsett running the ball with Allen coming out of the backfield to make plays, but one person and way better.
