4. Lardarius Webb

We know that Eric Weddle will be a difference maker at the strong safety position. That was pretty much determined when Will Hill was suspended and cut. What we don’t know is who will shine as Weddle’s co-star at the free safety position. The first opportunity  will go to Ladarius Webb.

Webb has been with the Ravens since 2009, but as a cornerback. After injuries have consistently hampered Webb, the move to the free safety position makes an awful lot of sense. While Webb played safety in college and has taken a decent number of reps with the Ravens, we still don’t know what to expect.

The intention is to put Webb in a position to make plays. We know he is a high football IQ player. It’s hard to imagine Webb being a liability as the deep defender because of that. Webb has ball skills in combination with his football intelligence. If Webb can prove himself as a ball-hawk the Ravens defense adds another dangerous element.

Webb will have plenty of chances to make plays. Quarterbacks avoid making mistakes around Weddle. They know that Weddle can make them pay. Quarterbacks are not yet afraid of Webb as a safety. He will be tested early and often. If he makes plays and prevents the opponent from big gains, the Ravens defense has great potential.
