457 Yards Into The Record Book

2015 was bad, and the week three loss to the Browns may have been the most embarrassing moment. The Ravens managed to make Josh McCown look like a combination of Ben Roethlisberger and Steve Young… that’s how bad the Ravens defense was. In that game, McCown went 36/51 for 457 yards and two touchdowns. To add insult to injury, he ran for a touchdown as well.

The Ravens defense was hopeless that day. Dean Pees practically gift wrapped the best day of McCown’s career. He never has had a day like that, and it’s doubtful he ever will again. To give you some perspective, here is a quick summary of McCown’s career. He has been on six different teams (not counting the teams that cut him before the season) mostly as a backup. The Ravens defense made him look like a star. McCown also set a Browns franchise record that day.

The Ravens are therefore walking into an interesting test. Remember, the Browns put up 30 points in both games last season. If the Ravens still have weaknesses on their defense, the Browns would know how to exploit them. Beating the lowly Browns doesn’t really prove anything, but it would suggest that the Ravens fixed their woes from 2015.
