Baltimore Ravens roster spotlight: A look at the quarterback position
By Joe Schiller
When will the Ravens start preparing for the future?
Sooner or later, the Ravens are going to have to move on from Joe Flacco. According to Spotrac.com, Flacco has $47 million in cap hit this season. There is potential for an out in 2020 when he is only an $8 million on the cap. As long as he is healthy and can play, there is no reason for the Ravens to get rid of him.

Other than Flacco, Mallett is the current back-up. They brought in undrafted free agent Zach Terrell from Western Michigan, but released him after mini-camp. I look at next year as a possible time to bring in a rookie quarterback. Right now draft experts are talking about 2018 being a very deep draft class for quarterbacks. Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen and Josh Allen are all potential first round picks next year. I can see the Ravens looking for a possible player in the later rounds. It wouldn’t hurt to have a rookie sit under Flacco for a couple years to learn the ropes. I like this idea better than waiting until the team is struggling to take one early.
