Players to watch on defense

Marlon Humphrey

After missing the first preseason game due to injury, Marlon Humphrey will make his long awaited debut tomorrow night. All eyes will be on the first round pick as he takes the NFL field for the first time in his young career. We’ll likely see him on the outside as well as in the slot. The Ravens drafted him with high expectations and they expect he’ll be a contributor this season. I would love to see him pick off Jay Cutler.

Tim Williams

Others and myself included have hyped up Tim Williams since the Ravens drafted him, and rightfully so. Williams was one of the best pass rushers Alabama has ever seen in program history. He’s extremely talented and has the potential to be an elite pass rusher in the NFL. Williams didn’t see much game time until the second half against the Redskins and didn’t have much of an impact.  He still needs some work, but the tools are there. Now with a game under his belt, look for Williams to improve tomorrow night.

Jaylen Hill

Once again it looks like the Ravens have found more talented undrafted players. Cornerback Jaylen Hill was one out of the standouts in the first preseason game. He finished the night with three tackles, a tackle for loss, one pass defended and one interception. Not too shabby for the rookie out of Jacksonville State. But as we know, Hill is going to need more than one good performance to make it on to the 53-man roster. So far, so good. He’s slowly making his case to be a contender for the slot corner position this season.

Carl Davis/Willie Henry

I am going to combine these two for the final spot. Thursday’s game could very well be an audition for Carl Davis and Willie Henry. With how deep the Ravens defensive line is, one of these two could likely be traded. If they impress against the Dolphins, their stocks will fly up. Don’t be surprised to see Ozzie make a move before the regular season. But for now, their performances help strengthen the Ravens defense.
