4. A Running Back to dazzle us:

The Ravens need clarity in the competition for their running back roster spots. The Ravens aren’t concerned with what they’re going to get from Alex Collins and Buck Allen. They are however unsure what Kenneth Dixon brings to the table and Gus Edwards and Mark Thompson are undrafted free agents. The Ravens probably keep just three running backs, so that third spot is what has to be earned.

Kenneth Dixon is the front runner for the third spot, but he has to earn it. Dixon just returned from the PUP list, so now he has a chance to put on a show in a game situation. There always seems to be something stopping Dixon. We get flashes of how he can wow us and then he gets hurt. Dixon needs to prove that he is the sensation we have seen brief glimpses of. If he gets outperformed, he could lose out.

Edwards looked very impressive last Thursday. He didn’t have many quality rushing lanes and he managed to have a few nice plays. The Ravens have five preseason games and Dixon missed the first one. If Edwards builds off of what he did last week, and keeps building through the preseason he will make a strong case for himself. Ravens fans want to see a running back dazzle them in pursuit of that third running back spot.
