Reason 3: The Ravens still need a punt returner to emerge

The Ravens need a punt returner and there hasn’t been a clear winner at the roster battle. It’s a fight between Janarion Grant and Tim White, with no promise that either of them makes the team. This is the most interesting thing to watch in relation to special teams, which have been oddly troubling for the purple and black this preseason.

A punt returning gig is on the line and bad plays are the biggest factor moving forward. At this point the Ravens understand what White and Grant can do when they catch the ball. They need to know that they can secure the ball. A punt returner puts himself alone, in a nerve racking spotlight. If the return man screws up, it’s costly. Punt return touchdowns are rare even for the best at the business, but a negative play is always a possibility on a punt return. The Ravens need to see who they can trust the most between Grant or White.
