2. Rival Mark Ingram for the top RB spot

Ingram is going to get his touches. The Ravens brought him in so that he could be the leader at the running back position. Edwards should strive to be the number one running back on this offense. Offensive coordinators tend to go with the hot hand and Edwards has to be that hot hand to take time away from Ingram in the backfield. Edwards is the young and rising player, while Ingram is looking at being 30 years old. Edwards should shoot for being the workhorse in the Ravens heavy run offense.

Daniel Jeremiah suggested on the NFL’s Move the Sticks podcast that Ingram could be heading to the Pro Bowl. The logic is certainly there. The Ravens are going to run the football a lot and Ingram is the most proven running back. The thing is though, it doesn’t need to be Ingram. Edwards has the same opportunity to receive a lion’s share of the touches and have special production. Edwards was on a roll last year and he became the most exciting part of the offense not named Lamar Jackson.

For Edwards, being the number one running back would be picking up where he left off. Edwards showed flashes of absolute brilliance last season. He had a strong start and now he has to follow it up. Who says Edwards has to be the complimentary piece to Ingram in the Ravens running back rotation? Ingram’s goal should be one of the top stars on the Ravens roster because that is what he is capable of.
