Ravens vs. Jaguars: 3 goals for the defense in 1st preseason game
2. See how deep the secondary really is:
The Baltimore Ravens have the deepest secondary in football. Now they get to show that this is a true statement. Marlon Humphrey, Jimmy Smith, Brandon Carr and Tavon Young figure to get very little playing time tonight. These are all players who the Ravens count. This is a good show case for young players like Anthony Averett, Bennett Jackson, Iman Marshall and Maurice Canady. In a secondary where the starters have a lot of talent behind them, the preseason is almost fun. One expectation that Martindale should have is to see his defensive backs rule the game well into the fourth quarter.

This is a night where DeShon Elliott has a chance to shine. He was hurt his whole rookie season and now we get to see what he brings to the table. Chuck Clark and Anthony Levine Sr. are almost becoming masters of preseason play at this point. The game doesn’t have to get boring in the fourth quarter. You know these guys, you love these guys. What other team has this much secondary help?
This is a chance to prove just how deep the secondary is. This is a chance to show that the starters are not the only reason this unit is elite. The Ravens defensive backs better win the battle tonight because they should be a step above the Jaguars backup offense. Defensive domination has to be a must tonight.
