3 problems facing the Baltimore Ravens after 6 games

The Baltimore Ravens are 4-2 and in first place in the AFC North. That being said, they have some problems they need to work out. Here are three problems facing the purple and black:

1. An even more depleted secondary after the DeShon Elliott injury:

The Baltimore Ravens secondary is even more depleted. According to reports, DeShon Elliott may be done for the season after he suffered a knee injury against the Cincinnati Bengals. Elliott, who missed his entire rookie season due to injury, seems to have bad luck in this department. This is the third defensive back the Ravens have lost for the season and Jimmy Smith has been out since getting injured in the season opener. No matter what move the Ravens make, their secondary is on plan C already. They cannot afford another injury and they desperately need Smith to come back into the action.

The good news here is that Chuck Clark stepped up to the plate in the first game without Tony Jefferson. Clark had three tackles in the game and played well at the strong safety position. The bad news is that a secondary that came into the season looking like they had a surplus of talent, now is just scraping by. In addition to injuries Anthony Averett was exposed as a problem for the secondary. Maurice Canady has been a pleasant surprise coming off the practice squad; but like I said this is plan C.

According to Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic, the Ravens could bring back Bennett Jackson, a strong safety who played well this preseason. Eric Berry is another name that analysts have brought up in relation to the Ravens; just ask Ebony Bird’s own Richard Bradshaw what he thinks about that. There is no way around the fact that the secondary is a major concern. It has played better in the past two weeks and players like Clark and Canady have stepped up. It’s just not how the Ravens drew it up and their depth in the secondary is all but gone.
