According to reports the Baltimore Ravens have traded for Marcus Peters. This is a game changer for the Ravens defense:

The Baltimore Ravens have reportedly made a move to bring in Marcus Peters to help this defense. Peters will help the Ravens defense tremendously. Pairing Peters with Marlon Humphrey gives Baltimore two corners who can shut down receivers in man to man coverage. A main trio of Humphrey, Peters and Brandon Carr will get the job done in the back end of the defense.

When Jimmy Smith returns, the cornerback situation will be just right. While losing two safeties for the year (Tony Jefferson, DeShon Elliott) hurts, Baltimore now has a chance to move forward with the secondary. Expect much better results from this unit moving forward.

The Ravens traded Kenny Young and a fifth round pick to get Peters. They essentially just traded the extra fifth round pick they got for Kaare Vedvik. Kenny Young had potential because of his athleticism however he wasn’t planning out this season. Young looked much more like the next Tavares Gooden than the a Zach Orr. Eric DeCosta gave away almost nothing and got someone the team needed badly. This isn’t just a win, it’s a steal. This trade is lopsided and it favors the purple and black.

This is a game changer for the season. Having another good cornerback on the outside could improve a lot of things. It makes teams less able to just throw opposite of Humphrey’s side. Being able to be more aggressive with wide receivers could knock off timing for opposing quarterbacks and could help the pass rush. The lack of pass rush is still a concern as is depth at safety, however this trade changes how you have to look at this defense.

The Ravens offense has shown that they can be expected to put up anywhere between 20-28 points. The Ravens lead the league in rushing and dominate in time of possession. The offense is doing it’s fair share. This doesn’t have to be a number one defense to win games. The Peters trade could get the Ravens where they need to be defensively.

Peters is a good cornerback who can be a play-maker when he’s at the top of his game. He had two interceptions this season for the Rams and has 24 interceptions in his career. In his rookie season with the Kansas City Chiefs he had eight interceptions and he’s picked off multiple passes in every year of his career. He’s an aggressive cornerback who can make a big difference. That’s the key with this move. Peters coming in should make a big impact on this season.

The Ravens are 4-2 and have tough games ahead of them. They still have to fight the Seattle Seahawks, New England Patriots, Houston Texans and Los Angeles Rams and the San Francisco 49ers. Baltimore isn’t going to win all six of these games however if they can win three or four of them a playoff spot is more than likely for the Ravens. This trade will make the difference in some of those games. The addition of Peters may just be the difference between the postseason and just missing out.

The Ravens got help where they needed it the most. They changed their entire situation defensively. The way things were going for the defense just wasn’t good enough. If the Ravens didn’t make a move like this it would have cost them at some point and it could have cost them dearly.

This is the type of move that could be a season saving game changer. The Ravens are 4-2 but have had a ton of problems along the way. With a firm lead in the division the Ravens needed to do something to keep from falling off the top spot in the AFC North. This could be the move that makes everything the team wants to accomplish possible.
